CCWC Story

In 2009, Dr. Ronny Smith was working as a case manager at a busy mental health center. Every week, he met patients who came to the center in deep emotional distress—panic attacks, depression, trauma—but once they were enrolled in outpatient services, they were assigned a therapist and a case manager, and this is when their mental health journey began.

One day, after helping a young woman who had serious emotional disturbances, Dr. Smith sat in his office and prayed. He realized that the day-to-day struggle for some individuals were hard to cope with, and a lot of individuals would not seek mental health counseling due to the stigma that it means you are “crazy” and that most individuals would not be proactive in getting mental health care to prevent so much emotional damage in their lives.

That day sparked an idea. He began talking to his colleagues—nurses, social workers, and a psychiatrist friend—about one day creating a community-based mental health center focused on accessible, preventive, and holistic mental health care.

In 2019, Careareus Counseling and Wellness Center, LLC was formed. Even though, the center did not open until August 2025. Dr. Smith was focusing on furthering his education during this time to make himself more knowledgeable in the field of preventive health and mental health. Also, during this time, He prepared himself by getting all things in order as to open this vision that he saw so many years ago.

When covid occurred, he realized that the opportunity for a virtual center would be more beneficial it that it made mental health more accessible to individuals who did not live geographical close to his location. Now that we are open for business, we offer therapy sessions and coaching virtually so that your mental health care can be done in the comfort of your home.

Today, Careareus Counseling and Wellness Center, LLC is more than a center—it’s a safe space where people feel seen, heard, and supported.
